What is Four Freedom Publishing?

Four Freedom Publishing is the limited, private publishing house of O'Hearn Literary Agency, dedicated to writers whose works advance the cause of Human Rights.

Four Freedom Publishing is not a vanity press.

What Does it Publish?

We publish sixteen books a year, in both paperback and ebook/Kindle formats. These are drawn from four literary sectors:

  • Fiction (including both novels and short story selections)

  • Non-Fiction (history, journalism, collected essay, collaborative)

  • Poetry and/or Children's

  • Drama or Screenplay

  •

Who is the Targeted Audience?

In particular for the Non-Fiction category, we seek works that will appeal to an educated audience with at least some post-secondary credits. However, we resist the purely academic jargon-filled works that erect barriers between the broader audience and the content.

What is Meant by the Term Human Rights?

As the title of our House implies, we base our editorial platform around works that concern themselves with the cause of Freedom as broadly defined by Franklin Roosevelt in his 1941 State of the Union address. They are:

  • Freedom of Speech

  • Freedom of Worship

  • Freedom from Want

  • Freedom from Fear

  •

Does Four Freedoms Publishing Publish Humour?

Yes! It is absolutely true that in life, in order to be taken seriously sometimes it is best to make the audience laugh. There is no literary sub-category (sport, romance, science-fiction, fantasy) that we will not consider.

Do You Consider New Authors?

Yes! You will see our Submission Policies below. We do not require a writer to have been previously published or agented, just talented and dedicated.

What Support and Royalty Arrangements Do You Offer?

At this time we offer four weeks of marketing to each title at Four Freedom's expense. We will construct a dedicated web page for each book, establish social media accounts and further promote the book to targeted reviewers and publications. Further marketing can be arranged on a case-by-case basis.

We do not offer advances against future sales. However, our Royalty rate is established at 12.5% of gross sales except for copies sent out for promotional purposes. We will also send authors (or their designated representatives) monthly sales updates, beginning 60 days after publication. The author will receive royalty payments bi-monthly beginning at the end of the first month 60 days after publication.1
