Manuscript Assessment

If your manuscript needs a little help, Four Freedom provides developing writers with an honest, detailed and professional
manuscript appraisal.
If you are writing a novel, a children’s book, non-fiction, a script or screenplay, short stories or poetry and would like guidance and support, Four Freedom can give developmental and structural advice showing you what you’re doing well, what’s working less well and why, and how to get your manuscript in the best possible shape.

We will look for basic errors in spelling, punctuation and grammar and look overall at improving the quality of the text. We will check the overall consistency of the book, watching out for weak areas of writing, and make corrections where necessary. Copy-editing can involve some basic rewriting or highlighting of areas of text that you as an author needs to look at again. They might also check facts and point out material that could be considered libellous.

Some of our clients come back to us once they have had their manuscript assessed and ask for a copy-edit and/or a proofread to make sure the manuscript is in the best possible shape ahead of submission to literary agents other than ourselves here at Four Freedom. Alternatively, writers who intend to self-publish will need to ensure that their ebook or print copy is as error-free and professional as possible.

Copy-Editing
Ghost Writing
Four Freedom offers ghostwriting services for anyone requiring text that is to be published under another person’s name; the client’s. Autobiographies of prominent figures, for example, are often ghostwritten. The ghostwriter is paid an agreed fee in advance, which is costed according to how much work is needed to complete the project. The client may have an idea, a partial or full draft, or a portfolio of ideas.

Mentoring
Do you want to develop your writing under the guidance of a published author or professional editor? Here at Four Freedom we offer an online mentoring scheme, tailor made for you. This service is the ideal option for those serious about their writing and wanting to improve their novel, without the expensive fees of an MA.

the opportunity to submit up to 80,000 words of prose (or equivalent poems poetry/short stories) over the course of 8 sessions (10, 000 words of prose, submitted sequentially, or the equivalent in poetry/short stories submitted every two months) offering you an invaluable level of feedback*

communication with your tutor via email: you can write when and where it suits you (no attending classes at a set time/location), perfect for those juggling professional/family commitments or living overseas

a full Four Freedom editorial assessment of your whole manuscript/collection/screenplay. After completion of the course your work will be read by one of our team to assess suitability for representation by Four Freedom Literary Agency should your final work be suitable.
*Your full book project may exceed 80,000 words, but your mentoring sessions will cover the first 80,000 to help you work on your editorial and writing skills. Your full manuscript must be submitted to us within 6 months of completing your eight mentoring sessions.
